Teaching and research have long been considered the two pillars of the university endeavour. UOIT is equally committed to research intensiveness and excellence in teaching when it opened in 2003, forging a reputation as one of Canada's newest research-intensive institutions. This is uncommon as most higher education institutions start with a focus primarily on undergraduate teaching, followed by research years later. In 2003-04, UOIT had 0,000 of research funding, which increased to more than .2 million the following year with a small faculty complement of only 24. In 2008-09 alone, university researchers secured more than .1 million in external funding.
UOIT's Faculty of Business and Information Technology offers innovative degrees in both commerce and information technology. The programs provide a useful balance between theory and applied learning and may be enhanced with a variety of specializations to meet your needs. The combination of award-winning professors, career-focused programs and state-of-the-art facilities position the graduates for success in the 21st-century workplace.
- MBA with Logistics & Supply Chain Management Specialization: The first program of its kind in the Region of Durham, the UOIT MBA prepares graduates to lead and succeed in private, public or voluntary sector organizations. The program strikes a balance between developing relevant IT theory and knowledge within the general management core curriculum and emphasizing your particular area of specialization through real-world case studies. To facilitate this, the program draws expertise from business firms and government agencies which also provide the basis for the program’s required research project. The world-class faculty have designed the innovative, broad-based MBA @UOIT around global issues and provide students with the opportunity to probe deeper into one of the following areas of specialization including logistics and supply chain management. This program is for students with at least two years of relevant work experience, the MBA will build on their employment experiences through courses and a research project. Students with less than two years of relevant work experience will have the opportunity to integrate their MBA studies, including the research project, with work placements.
