RYA Approved Practical Training Programs in Naples, Italy
Located in Napoli (Naples), Italy, Med Sailing offers a comprehensive range of RYA approved practical sailing programs. RYA qualifications and courses are known and respected the world over. Whether you are a complete beginner, have aspirations to develop a career in the yachting industry or just want to have fun sailing, Med Sailing has a sailing experience to suit your needs.
The sailing courses are taught on dedicated training boats, these are spacious fast cruising yachts set up exclusively for teaching and are equipped with all the essentials. Med sailing Sailing Area is the Archipelago of the Pontine Islands, Ischia, and Capri, around 20 miles offshore from their base, for mile building week we sailing to Sicily or Sardinia.
Med Sailing practical base is in Procida Island, one hour away by ferry from Naples. The Pontine archipelago is formed by six small islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the west coast of Italy, in the Gulf of Gaeta. The largest island is Ponza, followed by Ventotene, Palmarola, Zannone, Gavi and Santo Stefano. Procida Island an ideal location for quick and easy access from any country in Europe, though the international airport of Naples.
Training Programs
RYA Beginner Courses
- Competent Crew: The Competent Crew course consists of 5 days and intends to train the Candidate as a crew member and enable them to understand and carry out every order given by the Skipper.
- Mile Building Weeks: Mile-Building Weeks are the perfect way to accumulate sea miles and gain valuable experience and knowledge as a Skipper or crew member under the supervision of one of our t Instructors. The 7-day Mile Building course is also a great way to work through the requirements of your next RYA syllabus.
RYA Intermediate Courses
- Day Skipper: Day Skipper Certificate is the minimum qualification to charter a yacht worldwide legally. The Day Skipper Course teaches you the skills needed to skipper a yacht safely. Whilst it is a reasonably intense course, there is still time to stop at a different port each night and enjoy the Pontine Islands and Amalfi Coast. The course lasts for 5 days, including at least a one-night passage of 3+ hours.
RYA Advanced Courses
- Coastal Skipper: Like the Day Skipper course, this course consists of skippered passages in a variety of situations. Each trainee will skipper more challenging passages and learn more about passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations. Duration is 5 days, boarding from 18:00 on Sunday and disembarking on Saturday at 10.00, your accommodation on board on Sunday & Friday evening is also included.
RYA Professional Courses
- Yachtmaster Prep: This is an intensive preparation week before taking the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Examination is proficient to skipper a sailing yacht on any passage during which the vessel is no more than 150 miles from a safe haven. This is 7 days (5 prep. & 2-exam) 8 nights on board program.
- RYA Cruising Instructor Course: The first step in teaching within the practical cruising scheme is to become qualified as an RYA Cruising Instructor, before moving up to the Yachtmaster Instructor qualification. Five days (sail) course with a second Trainer joining on the final day as course moderator.
