UK MCA Approved and CEPT Compliant GMDSS Training Programs & STCW Endorsements for Seafarers in Genoa, Italy
Founded in 2009 and located in Genoa, Italy, Wave Center is a training center specialized in maritime radio communications and the Wave Center was founded with the aim of offering education and training in the maritime sector. They prepare students of the prestigious Italian Maritime Academy of Genoa to obtain the GMDSS GOC international certificate.
Wave Center is also authorized by the Association of Marine Electronic and Radio Colleges (AMERC) to provide GMDSS courses on behalf of the UK MCA (UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency). AMERC is an association of companies, universities and private organizations that offers courses and consultancy in the maritime radio and electronics field internationally.
The study courses and examination programs have been harmonized with the procedural and technical standards set by the European standards of the CEPT (European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations). This harmonization allows the mutual recognition of GMDSS certificates issued by all CEPT member countries which have adopted ERC/DEC/(99)/01.
Training Programs
GMDSS Courses (MCA Approved)
- GMDSS General Operator’s Certificate (GOC) (9 days): The GMDSS GOC certificate is the highest GMDSS radio operator’s certification and is suitable for Masters, Merchant Navy deck officers, commercial Yachtmasters and other shipboard personnel who perform radiocommunication duties. Holders of the GMDSS GOC are certified to operate the radio installation on board SOLAS vessels operating in any of the GMDSS sea areas (Area A1 - A2 - A3 - A4).
- GMDSS Restricted Operator’s Certificate (ROC) (4 days): Holders of the GMDSS ROC are certified to operate the radio installation on board SOLAS vessels sailing exclusively within the GMDSS sea area A1 (the range of VHF coast stations).
- GMDSS Long Range Radiotelephone Operator’s Certificate (LRC) (4 days): The course is aimed at operators in the voluntary radio fit sector and operators on commercial vessels not subject to compulsory radio fitment under the SOLAS 1974 Convention. The holders of the LRC certificate are authorized to operate the radio installation on board non-SOLAS vessels operating in any of the sea areas (Area A1 - A2 - A3 - A4).
- Long Range Operator’s Certificate (Satellite Module) (1 day): Permits the holder of the LRC certificate to operate the GMDSS satellite communications equipment. The satellite module can be obtained either simultaneously with the LRC certificate or subsequently.
- GMDSS Refresher Course: If you obtained a GMDSS certificate in a training center some time ago, it is likely that your ship is not fitted with the same type of equipment on which you trained or simply you did not have time to keep yourself up to date. This course will cover this.
