Founded in 1880, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) is an internationally renowned research university located at Amsterdam, Netherlands. The university offers over 120 English taught programs at Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level. The campus is located in the business districts (Buitenveldert neighborhood) of Amsterdam. VU also offers services for all international students such as housing, visa and scholarships. The VU is one of two large, publicly funded research universities in the city.
With over 23000 students and 3000 international students, the university conducts cutting-edge research into problems of societal and scientific importance. The university distinguishes itself in research and education through four interdisciplinary themes such as Human Health and Life Sciences, Science for Sustainability, Connected World and Governance for Society.
The Vrije Universiteit is made up of several faculties, responsible for teaching and research, as well as a number of interdisciplinary research institutes. Faculties are - Behavioral and Movement Sciences, Dentistry, Earth and Life Sciences, Economics and Business Administration, Humanities, Law, Sciences, Social Sciences, and the VUmc School of Medical Sciences. The faculties offer 50 bachelors, almost 160 masters, and a number of PhD programs.

Masters Degree Programs
- MSc in Business Administration (Transport and Supply Chain Management Specialization) (1 year, English): The Transport and Supply Chain Management specialization offers a unique combination of education in transport economics and in supply chain management. The main focus of our program is on professional services industries, making this an unrivalled degree specialization in the Netherlands and in Europe. During your course work you will investigate supply chains and transportation networks both at micro (supply chain) level (e.g. management of global supply chains and transportation networks, supply chain strategy development) and at macro level (e.g. impact of government regulations or transport policies on the environment).
- Career Opportunities: Typically students have a job offer within 3 months after graduation, with many students already receiving job offers while still studying. Students may become operations and supply chain managers or consultants in a variety of industries ranging from manufacturing, assembly, wholesale and retail in amongst others fast moving consumer goods, fashion, electronics and food. Students who are more attracted to transport policy may be involved in assessments of (large) infrastructural projects in cities, seaports and airports and support transport decision making from a wider cost-benefit perspective either as a policy maker or a consultant.
- Admission Requirements: In order to gain admission to the Master’s program, you need to have at least a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited research university including at least three full years of academic study amounting to a minimum of 180 EC or equivalent. This program do not require a GRE or GMAT test score. English language requirement for non native students are IELTS 6.5 (writing min 6.0)or TOEFL 580 (internet based 92-93).
- Transport and Supply Chain Management (Pre-Master's, 1 semester): This pre-master's at VU Amsterdam will give you the knowledge and skills to successfully solve challenges in modern supply chains and transportation networks. You will also understand the impact of legislation and governmental vision on supply chains and the planet. Your quantitative analytical skills and all-encompassing view of supply chains will make you an attractive candidate for many jobs in the field.
Short Courses
- Labour Rights in Global Supply-Chains (1 or few weeks): Through a general introduction in international labour law students will be made familiar with the institutional framework of the International Labour Organisation and the legal nature of international labour law (from both a global and a regional perspective), and various legislative techniques, material aspects and the impact of international labour law on the domestic legal order of the member states.
