Logistics Engineering and Maritime Officer programs at HZ Vlissingen Campus in Netherlands
Established in 1987 and located at Vlissingen and Terneuzen in the South-West of the Netherlands, HZ University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool Zeeland - HZ) is a vocational university and has ranked in the top three multidisciplinary universities of applied sciences for five years in a row from 2011-2015. Eight of the degree programs are in first place and 14 Bachelor’s programs are listed in the top 3 in the country.
With a population of some 4,800 international students HZ is a small university and offers high-quality study programs. HZ is a government-funded University of Applied Sciences (HBO).The Bachelor programs, including the English-language programs, taught at HZ have been accredited by the NVAO (Netherlands-Flemish Accreditation Organization) based on international agreements. Maritime programs are offered at the De Ruyter Academy (also known as Maritime Institute de Ruyter - MIR).
Academic & Training Programs
- Bachelors Program in Logistics Engineering (4 years, English): The Logistics Engineering course will teach you everything about all different modes of transport. You will learn everything there is to know about physical distribution during the course - storage, transport and the planning of goods. In your third year, you do an internship in the Netherlands or abroad. In the fourth year, you carry out a graduation project, in which you will analyze a company problem and find a solution that can actually be implemented.
- Maritime Officers Program (4 years, Dutch): During the study you gain knowledge about various subjects such as navigation, voyage preparation, technology, engineering, pilotage, heavy lift, port logistics etc. You will take practical courses in the field of fire fighting and survival techniques and sail short periods on board different ships. You will do an internship in the third and fourth year of the program. You apply for one of the shipping companies of your choice.
