Founded in 1929 as the Netherlands Ship Model Basin (NSMB) by the Dutch government and industry, Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) is an independent and innovative service provider for the maritime sector and a contributor to the well being of society. The services incorporate a unique combination of simulation, model testing, full-scale measurements and training programs. Research is conducted in the fields of powering performance, sea keeping and maneuvering, including shallow water effects, cavitations, vibration, and noise etc.
MARIN has special test laboratories like Deep Water Towing Tank, Shallow Water Basin, High Speed Basin, De-pressurized Towing, Cavitations tunnel, and Sea keeping and Maneuvering Basin. The High Speed Basin was rebuilt into a Concept Basin recently. The head office is located in Wageningen with two more offices in Ede and Houston.
Nautical training at MSCN - The nautical trainings at MSCN comprise specialized training for the maritime professional world, i.e. pilots, ship officers, tug masters and offshore personnel.
MARIN Academy - MARIN Academy pursues a worldwide top position in developing, applying and sharing hydrodynamic and nautical knowledge by accelerating this knowledge and sharing it through cooperation with international universities, research institutes and companies.
