Established in 1991 and based at Hamble Point Marina (Southampton), in Hamble near Southampton the British Offshore Sailing School (BOSS) is one of Britain's leading sailing schools. BOSS has full Royal Yachting Association (RYA) recognition, is a Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) Approved Activity Provider and the sailing school is run by a team of professional instructors.
BOSS offers an extensive range of RYA sailing courses and RYA yachting courses from the Hamble School Yachting base as well as overseas locations. Sailing courses for beginners through to expert RYA Ocean Yachtmaster are available throughout the year. In addition, a wide selection of special one day and weekend sailing courses and sailing masterclasses are available to people at all levels.
For those who wish to improve their skills, a comprehensive selection of RYA and specialist shore-based courses and are also available at Hamble. Other programs include - Fastrak sailing courses, Cruises, Youth Sailing, and racing to name a few.
Training Programs
RYA Practical Sailing Courses
- RYA Start Yachting: The basic RYA weekend course aimed at giving beginners an introduction to cruising.
- RYA Competent Crew sailing course: RYA Competent Crew is the basic introductory crew training course for both the complete beginner and those who have some experience.
- RYA Day Skipper – Practical: Introductory skippering course for those with some practical experience and theoretical knowledge.
- Day Skipper Course - Shore based and Practical: An intensive course for those who want to complete both the theory and practical parts of the course in one period
- ICC - International Certificate of Competence (Sail): Training and assessment courses are run most weeks throughout the year.
- RYA Coastal Skipper - Practical: A 5 day course in coastal and offshore skippering techniques.
- RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Course: 5 Days Exam brush up course followed by the MCA/RYA Yachtmaster Exam
- RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Exam Preparation Course: Spend five days brushing up, practicing and being coached by one of our top RYA Yachtmaster Instructors followed by the RYA / MCA examination.
- RYA Cruising Instructor (Sail): The five day course for those who already hold the RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competency. A mixture of instruction and assessment.
- DofE - Residential Sailing Courses: Complete your Gold DofE residential section by attending an RYA course or cross Channel cruising adventure.
