Merchant Marine and Maritime Professional Training Programs in Varna, Bulgaria

Established in 1974, Bulgarian Maritime Training Center (BMTC) is a complete training source for personnel employed in the shipping to prepare for Maritime Administration examinations and other professional qualifications. In 1989 the BMTC was declared as a national maritime training centre by Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and as a Centre of Excellence in its field over the years has constantly strengthens its position as the leading provider of high quality courses for seafarers working on board different types of vessels.
BMTC provides also a wide range of Maritime English courses and Computer Training Courses as well as licensed by Bulgarian Agency for professional education and training courses for achievement of vocational qualification for Ratings - Seamen, Motormen, Able seamen, Ship’s cook, Fitters, Electricians, and Stewards as well as for marine engineering and navigation on operational level.
BMTC makes considerable investments in modern equipment and it maintenance - the latest versions of Bridge, Engine Room and Liquid Cargo Handling Simulators of Kongsberg are in operation. All 3 simulators are maintained in accordance with LTSSP and are licensed by DNV. Since March 2011, Bridge Simulator and Engine Room are integrated, which contributes to the better course performance.

Training Programs
Merchant Marine Training
- Preparative Course for Management Level for Navigators (68 hours): The course is designed for theoretical and practical training of persons, who will apply for the acquisition of the competence in the management level - Master on vessel over 3000 GT, Master on vessel of 500 up to 3000 GT, Chief officer on vessel over 3000 GT , or Chief officer on vessel of 500 up to 3000 GT.
- Operation and Maintenance of Power Systems of 1000 Volts (5 days): The course complements and extends the knowledge of engine department for safe operation and maintenance of power systems in excess of 1000 volts on board ships.
- Use of RADAR and ARPA to Maintain Safety of Navigation (9 days): The course is intended for achieving knowledge and skills by the applicants applying for being certified as watch-keeping officers on board vessels required to be equipped with radar equipment and ARPA equipment so that in performing watch-keeping officer’s duties to be able to ensure and maintain safe navigation and collision avoidance.
- Preparatory Course for Engine Officers Management Level (6 days): The purpose of the course is to provide theoretical and practical training of ship engineers who are candidates for obtaining of certificates for Engine Officers Management Level - Chief Engineer Officer over 3000 kW, Chief Engineer Officer over 750 kW up to 3000 kW, Second Engineer Officer over 3000 kW, or Second Engineer Officer over 750 kW up to 3000 kW.
