Deck & Engineer Cadet Training Programs, MCA, OPITO & GWO Approved Training Programs in Glasgow

Located at Glasgow UK, Steam Marine Training (SMT) is maritime training provider of deck and engineering cadetships, fire-fighting, sea survival, survival craft and HSE training to the global maritime, oil and gas, renewable and construction industries. Apart from the training, SMT also provides pre-requisite learning, transportation, accommodation, sustenance and certification to all the participants.
SMT is located at Glasgow International Airport, with easy access via air, rail or road and with a wide selection of hotels available on campus. SMT develops a wide range of training courses and cover theoretical learning as well as practical training that can be delivered at SMT’s fire ground, pool, survival craft or classroom facilities.
Current marine training projects include; Training Gap analysis for personnel and Competency Gap analysis for shipping personnel, Monitoring of support staff to improve overall business performance, Manage training department through step change program to improve efficiency, Ports training portfolio for fleet of ports staff to tie together overall ports staff competency and demonstrate a recognized training program, Producing Introduction to Shipping program for national ferry operator, and, Producing Introduction to Ports and Awareness program for national ferry operator.

Training Programs
Deck Cadetship Training Program
- The aim of the Deck Officer Cadetship is to gain a recognized academic qualification though the nautical college you attend, as well as achieving your first Certificate of Competency (CoC). Upon successful completion of your training course you will be issued with your Officer of the Watch Certificate (OOW), this allows you to gain employment as a Junior Officer and start to climb your way through the ranks with the ultimate aim of becoming Captain of your own vessel one day.
- Entry Requirements: A minimum of four National 5’s/GSCE at grade C or above which must include Maths, English and a physical science; Hold a valid UK/EEA Passport; and Have been normally resident within the UK for the last 36 months.
Engineering Cadetship Training Program
- The aim of the Engineer Officer Cadetship is to gain a recognized academic qualification though the nautical college you attend, as well as achieving your first Certificate of Competency (CoC). Upon successful completion of your training course you will be issued with your Engineering Officer of the Watch Certificate (EOOW), this allows you to gain employment as a Junior Officer and start to climb your way through the ranks with the ultimate aim of becoming Chief Engineer, leading and supervising the engine department on board a vessel.
- Entry Requirements: A minimum of four National 5’s/GSCE at grade C or above which must include Maths, English and a physical science; Hold a valid UK/EEA Passport; and Have been normally resident within the UK for the last 36 months.
