Located in Glasgow Scotland, Glasgow Maritime Academy (GMA) offers a range of maritime courses from MCA orals to written preps and short courses for the Maritime and Cruise/Yacht industries. GMA also provide generic as well as type specific ECDIS courses, Tanker courses, Nautical Institute courses, as well as also providing RYA and yachting courses. Glasgow Maritime Academy is conveniently located in the heart of Glasgow city centre.

Glasgow Maritime Academy is the first training provider in the UK to be recognized by Nautical Institute for delivering ISM lead Auditors Course and the first Academy in Scotland to get MCA approval to deliver STCW 2010 Tanker Training.


GMA has all the contemporary as well as traditional facilities needed for training has in house interactive software which is given free to all students. From compass to sextant to ECDIS, GMA has identical equipment to which is used in marine offices. Glasgow Maritime Academy also has the latest ECDIS and tanker simulator.

Training Programs




MCA Orals

  • Masters Orals Unlimited (4 weeks): This course enables candidates to achieve Master (Unlimited) certification by the MCA Oral examination route. Candidates will receive tuition and guided study in preparation for the MCA Oral examination.
  • Mates Oral Unlimited (4 weeks): This course enables candidates to achieve Chief Mate (Unlimited) certification by the MCA Oral examination route. Candidates will receive tuition and guided study in preparation for the MCA Oral examination.
  • OOW Orals Unlimited or Yacht OOW 3000 (4 weeks): This course enables candidates to achieve Officer of the Watch (Unlimited) certification by the MCA Oral examination route. Candidates will receive tuition and guided study in preparation for the MCA Oral examination.
  • Masters Orals - Yacht 3000gt or 500 gt (4 weeks): This course enables candidates to achieve Master yacht 3000gt or 500gt certification by the MCA Oral examination route. Candidates will receive tuition and guided study in preparation for the MCA Oral examination.
  • Masters Orals 200 GT or OOW < 500 (4 weeks): The MCA Master <200gt CoC / OOW 500 is an MCA issued certificate of competency for code vessels which has no vessel length limits. If you already hold a Yacht Master Ocean CoC then your Master 200 will be issued for use in an unlimited sea area whereas if you hold Yacht Master Offshore your 200 CoC will be restricted to 150miles offshore. With the Master 200 CoC you will also be awarded Officer Of the Watch (OOW) for use on vessels <500gt in an unlimited sea area.
  • Masters Orals 500 GT or Chief Mate 3000 Orals D syllabus (4 weeks): The MCA Masters Orals 500 GT or Chief Mate 3000 is an orals course designed as per ORALS D sylabus of MGN 369
  • Masters Orals Distance Learning: This course is suitable for someone who is on a permanent rotation working on ships and cannot attend college in a 4 week continuous stretch. Candidates will receive tuition and guided study in preparation for the MCA Oral examination through blended learning.
