Located in Glasgow Scotland, Glasgow Maritime Academy (GMA) offers a range of maritime courses from MCA orals to written preps and short courses for the Maritime and Cruise/Yacht industries. GMA also provide generic as well as type specific ECDIS courses, Tanker courses, Nautical Institute courses, as well as also providing RYA and yachting courses. Glasgow Maritime Academy is conveniently located in the heart of Glasgow city centre.
Glasgow Maritime Academy is the first training provider in the UK to be recognized by Nautical Institute for delivering ISM lead Auditors Course and the first Academy in Scotland to get MCA approval to deliver STCW 2010 Tanker Training.
GMA has all the contemporary as well as traditional facilities needed for training has in house interactive software which is given free to all students. From compass to sextant to ECDIS, GMA has identical equipment to which is used in marine offices. Glasgow Maritime Academy also has the latest ECDIS and tanker Simulator.
Training Programs
MCA Orals Prep Courses
- Masters Orals Unlimited - Classroom (4 weeks): This course enables candidates to achieve Master (Unlimited) certification by the MCA Oral examination route.
- Mates Oral Unlimited - Classroom (4 weeks): This course enables candidates to achieve Chief Mate (Unlimited) certification by the MCA Oral examination route.
- OOW Orals Unlimited or Yacht OOW 3000 - Classroom (4 weeks): This course enables candidates to achieve Officer of the Watch (Unlimited) certification by the MCA Oral examination route.
- MCA Class 1 Chief Engineer Orals Unlimited Prep - Classroom (2 weeks): This course enables candidates to achieve STCW Reg III/2 - Chief Engineer unlimited certification by the MCA Oral examination route.
- MCA Class 2 Engineering Unlimited Orals Prep - Classroom (2 weeks): This course enables candidates to achieve STCW Reg III/2 - Chief Engineer unlimited certification by the MCA Oral examination route.
- MCA Engineer OOW Orals Unlimited - Classroom (2 weeks): This course enables candidates to achieve Officer of the Watch (Unlimited) certification by the MCA Oral examination route.
- MCA Mock Orals (1 hour): MCA mock orals online for deck and engineering orals exam. The exam is conducted by Ex MCA surveyors for an hour which simulates an actual MCA orals exam.
Maritime Security Courses
- MCA approved Proficiency in Security Awareness Course (PSA) (4 hours): Security awareness training must be undertaken by all seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships which are required to comply with the ISPS Code. This training/instruction must meet the requirements of section A-VI/6 paragraph 4 of the amended STCW code.
- MCA approved Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) (1 day): The Proficiency in Designated Security Duties training meets with the requirements of Section A-VI paragraphs 6-8 of the amended STCW code.
- MCA approved Ship Security Officers Course (SSO) (3 days): This course is for anyone who wants to work as a Shipboard Security Officer on board a Merchant Navy vessel. It conforms with the requirements of SOLAS Chapter XI - 2, the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code.
- DFT approved Port Facility Security Officers Course (PFSO) (3 days): This course meets the requirements of the ISPS Code and the requirements specified in the IMO Model Course for Port Facility Security Officers and is designed for any security officer with overall responsibility for port security under Department for Transport guidelines.
- Company Security Officer Course (CSO) (4 days): The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) accredited, 4-Day Company Security Officer course is intended to meet the requirements set out in sections A/2.1.7 and A/II of the ISPS Code and corresponding guidance in Part B of the Code and relevant UK legislation.
- Maritime Cyber Security Training (8 hours): The ISM Code, supported by the IMO Resolution MSC.428(98), requires ship owners and managers to assess cyber risk and implement relevant measures across all functions of their safety management system.
