U.S. Coast Guard Approved Leadership and Management Training for the Marine Industry in Washington, Alaska and Nevada
West Coast Maritime Training, located at Bremerton WA, conducts maritime leadership and management training in Washington and also in Alaska & Nevada. They conduct two classes which are approved by USCG for the STCW requirements for experienced mariners.
Most of the participants are from different companies and different areas of the marine industry. The classes work in groups with the members’ actively participating and learning leadership and management principles and concepts.
West Coast Maritime Training serves the west coast, the Puget Sound and the Northwest from Bremerton, WA. For South West USA, including southern Californian, the Bay area, Phoenix and Denver, the classes are conducted at Las Vegas, NV.
Alaska is served through the University of Alaska at Ketchikan, Alaska. Besides, the company also conducts onsite training throughout United States.

Training Programs
USCG & STCW Courses
- Leadership and Managerial Skills (5 day - 35 Hours): Courses include, duties and responsibilities of ship board personnel, maritime conventions and national legislation, different shipboard managements, history and evolution of management thought, leadership vs management, bad leadership traits, leadership theories and trait theory, management leadership matchup factors, personality indicators, 7 habits of highly effective people, emotional intelligence, motivation and coaching skills, US maritime laws and history, and more. This course must be taken by the following personnel:
- Master 500 tons and above
- Chief Mate 500 tons and above
- Chief Engineer 750 kW/1,000 HP or more and less than 3,000 kW/4,000 HP
- 2nd Engineer 750 kW/1,000 HP or more and less than 3,000 kW/4,000 HP
- Leadership and Team Skills (WCMTLD -768) (1 day - 8 Hours): The 8 hour Leadership and Team Working Skills runs concurrently with the first day of the 5-day course and the content is the same as the first day of the five day course. This course must be taken by the following personnel:
- OICNW (Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch) above 500 tons
- OICEW (Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch) 750 kW/1,000 HP or more and less than 3,000 kW/4,000 HP
