The Pacific Northwest OSHA Education Center has provided the highest quality safety and health training to individuals in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska since 1995, and is the only OSHA-authorized training center in Region 10. The expert instructors provide engaging standards based, OSHA-authorized training designed to reduce and prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.

Students gain skills and competence in OSHA policies and procedures, and best practices for safety and health in their workplace. The center trains individuals in our classrooms, at conferences, and on-site during customized trainings, making the courses easily accessible to all prospective students.

With 37 core courses, 7 safety and health certificate programs, and Outreach Trainer Programs for 4 different industries, they offer numerous training and career advancement opportunities.

Pacific Northwest OSHA Education Center is part of University of Washington Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Continuing Education Programs (UW DEOHS CE).

Training Programs

Certificate Program (Maritime)

  • Maritime Safety & Health Specialist Certificate (138–144 contact hours): The Maritime Safety & Health Specialist Certificate is for individuals interested in gaining expertise in maritime industry safety and health and taking a key set of skills to their place of employment. Individuals who complete the certificate program will be authorized as a Maritime Industry Outreach Trainer to conduct the 10- and 30-hour courses for Shipyard Employment, Marine Terminals, or Longshoring operations

Other Maritime OSHA Courses

  • OSHA #5410 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry: This course covers OSHA policies, procedures, and standards for the maritime industry. Using the OSHA Maritime Standards as a guide, special emphasis is placed on those areas in the maritime industry which are most hazardous.
  • OSHA #5400 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry: This course is designed for individuals interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour Maritime safety and health Outreach Training Program to their employees and other interested groups. Special emphasis is placed on those topics required in the 10- and 30-hour Outreach Training Program as well as the most hazardous in the maritime industry using OSHA Maritime Standards as a guide.
  • OSHA #5402 Maritime Industry Trainer Update Course: This course is designed for individuals who have successfully completed the OSHA #5400 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry course and are active Outreach Training Program trainers.
  • OSHA #7215 Silica in Construction, Maritime, and General Industries: This course covers the development and implementation of controls and strategies to prevent or mitigate silica exposures in construction, maritime, and general industries.
