The Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) is the only professional organization focused on warehouse management and its role in the supply chain, providing practical, how-to information to help members grow professionally as they improve warehouse and company performance. WERC is a not-for-profit organization with individual members.

Members are professionals who lead, direct and manage the efficient flow of information, materials and finished goods throughout the supply chain. Members come from various backgrounds and represent a variety of distribution interests.

WERC offers resources that help distribution professionals stay at the leading edge including educational events, performance metrics for benchmarking, practical research, expert insights and peer-to-peer knowledge exchange.

WERC began as a grassroots effort in 1977, when a number of individuals from the distribution field came together in search of educational, research and networking opportunities in the field of warehousing.

Certification & Online Learning

Certification for Warehouses

  • WERC Warehouse Certification Program: The WERC Warehouse Certification Program is a voluntary facility certification program that certifies an individual warehouse facility’s capabilities and its ability to perform core warehousing functions. The program provides an industry standard grading methodology that includes facility inspections and process assessments by independent third parties. Certification is based on audits using the WERC Warehousing & Fulfillment Process Benchmark & Best Practices Guide. The Guide outlines 5 levels of warehouse process competencies ranging from poor to best practice and covers the common warehousing processes: Receiving & Inspection; Material Handling; Slotting; Storage & Inventory Control; Warehouse Management Systems; Shipping Documentation; Picking & Packing; and Load Consolidation & Shipping.

Online Learning Programs

  • Introduction to Warehousing and Distribution: The course is to help employees new to warehousing and distribution as well as cross functional departments / organizations (i.e. business development, finance, purchasing, and replenishment) to better understand the importance, purpose, and role warehousing and distribution plays in the supply chain.
  • Inventory Management in the Warehouse: This course is designed to help you understand the impact inventory has on warehousing, why managing inventory is important to a facility's success, and to expose you to the different methods to manage inventory in a warehouse.
