AMSA Approved Maritime Qualifications, STCW 10 and ESS Training in Brisbane, Queensland

Established in 2007 and located at Murarrie (Brisbane) - Queensland, ECA Maritime College was developed to help the Maritime Industry and Mariners gain access to on the job training, reduce the amount of time in the classroom and get students out and into the industry.

For the past 9 years ECA Maritime College has been working with both individuals and corporate clients and specializes in developing programs to accommodate the day job. The college also offers the clients current updates with any changes to the Maritime Licence issues relevant to their qualifications. Maritime Commercial Services at the college is a division which d provides a service to companies and people who need their vessels delivered or moved at sea.

Training Programs

Commercial Boating Courses


  • Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal (2 weeks full-time, online 6 weeks part-time): The Coxswain (Grade I NC) Certificate of Competency allows a Mariner who wish to command a commercial vessel up to 12 meters in length, operating no more than 15 nautical miles to sea, with a diesel engine capacity of <500 kW (670hp) and may be carrying passengers.
  • Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 NC (5 weeks full-time, online 12 months from enrolment): The Coxswain (Grade I NC) Certificate of Competency allows a Mariner who wish to command a commercial vessel up to 12 metres in length, operating no more than 15 nautical miles to sea, with a diesel engine capacity of <500 kW (670hp) and may be carrying passengers.
  • Marine Engine Driver 2 NC (MED2) (3 weeks full-time, online 6 weeks part time): This qualification is suitable for people who work in the maritime industry operating as Chief Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 1500 kW and Second Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 3000 kW in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
  • Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 NC (MED3 NC) (2 weeks full-time, online 4 weeks part time): This qualification is suitable for people who work in the maritime industry operating as Chief Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 500 kW and Second Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 750 kW, in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
  • Master <24M Near Coastal (M5) (3-4 weeks full-time, online 6 weeks part time): This qualification is suitable for people working in the maritime industry as a Master on commercial vessels up to 24 meters in length within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
  • Master 35m Near Coastal (M4) (4 weeks full-time, online 10 weeks part time): This qualification is suitable for those sailing as Master on vessels up to 35 meters in length within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) or a Mate on vessels up to 80 meters in length.
  • Mate up to 80m NC (or Mate 4) (4 weeks full-time, online 10 weeks part time): This qualification is suitable for those sailing as Mate on vessels up to 80 meters in length within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
