Undergraduate Programs in Maritime Operations and Marine Diesel Engineering in Bridgetown, Barbados
Established in 1969 and located at Bridgetown in Barbados, the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) is a vocational school in Barbados. Apart from its own programs, the Polytechnic also provides training for the Barbados Vocational Training Board, students of Secondary Schools, Industrial Workers and teachers of our schools.

Training Programs
Maritime Courses
- Certificate in Maritime Operations (2 semesters): This program is designed to equip students with the entry level competencies in maritime operations and for and further education. The program includes navigation, seamanship and environmental studies. It provides students with the basics in meteorology and oceanography.
- Diploma in Marine Diesel Engineering (4 semesters): This program is designed to prepare students with the basic knowledge and skills in the field of Marine Diesel Engineering to function as entry level Marine Diesel Engineers within the Marine industry. Students with this qualification should be able to perform basic repair and maintenance on a variety of models of marine vessels and engines. Participants will be exposed to industrial attachment at the end of the program.
- Entry Requirements: The prerequisites include Grade 1 or 2 CSEC/CXC General Proficiency or their equivalent in English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject. Persons applying for the diploma programs must have the SJPI certificate in the chosen field.
