Located in Coconut Grove, Miami, FL, the Captain School Miami is a USCG approved school. Captain School Miami has teamed up with the City of Miami Fire Department Fire College to offer the learning platform to Coconut Grove. The main classroom is in Key West and conduct throughout the Florida Keys, Merritt, Miami FL, Mississippi, North Carolina, Maine, and New Orleans LA.

They also provide specialized professional training for Navy (SWIC), Army (Special Forces), FBI (Hostage Recovery Team), National Parks and Services, and ATMO. Theye offer 3 different types of training to meet the individual needs and one can choose between Traditional Classroom Training, On-the-Water Training, Online Training or a combination of these.

Online programs are conducted by Online Captain School and they are a part of the Captain School Key West which is a Coast Guard Certified facility that helps Merchant Mariners achieve their goals in marine education and certification.

Training Programs

USCG Approved Training

  • OUPV (6pak) - Class, Online, Hybrid: The OUPV license allows the transport of up to six passengers on an uninspected vessel.
  • Masters Upgrade (Masters License 25/50/100 Ton): The Masters license allows the transport of passengers on an inspected passenger vessel. These vessels must have a Certificate of Inspection (COI) which states the number of passengers allowed and area of operation.
  • 200 GT Masters Upgrade: USCG approved upgrade to Master/Mate 200GT course is for mariners holding a license as Master, Mate or OUPV
  • Tow Endorsement: The Commercial Assistance Towing Endorsement is a four-hour USCG Approved course for a mariner holding any license. 
  • Sail Endorsement: This is a four-hour USCG Approved classroom-based course that will cover the written examination requirement for a candidate holding a USCG Master license to obtain a Sailing or Auxiliary Sailing Endorsement.

CPR / First Aid / MROP Courses

  • CPR/First Aid: The American Heart Association CPR/First Aid certification course meets U.S Coast Guard criteria. 
  • MROP: Many mariners operating inspected vessels or doing international voyages may be required to have a MROP
