Training Programs
USCG Courses
- Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel / Near Coastal (6 Pack) (54.5 hours): This license has long been the most popular license issued by the Coast Guard. For carrying not more than 6 passengers, license good for 100 Miles offshore as well as any inland waters in the US.
- Upgrade - Master Near Coastal 100 Gross Tons (3 days): This course duration is 24 hours. Test immediately after the class and send certificate of passing to the Coast Guard for your license.
- Towing Endorsement (4 hours): The Assistance Towing Endorsement is required if you will be towing a disabled vessel for payment. Any USCG Captain's License of 200 gross tons or less, including an OUPV / Six Pack Captain's License, may be endorsed for Assistance Towing.
- Bridge Resource Management (3 days):This course provides the training to the mariner necessary for them to meet STCW, or U.S. Coast Guard requirements for Bridge Resource Management. The training requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(vii); 11.319(a)(4)(vii); and of section A-II/1, table A-II/1, and section A-II/3, table A-II/3 of the STCW Code, as amended 2010, Maintain a Safe Navigational Watch
- Leadership and Teamworking Skills (1 day):This course provides the training to the mariner necessary for them to meet STCW, U.S.C.G. or IMO requirements for Leadership and Teamworking.
- Radar Observer (38 hours): AMS uses state of the art modern TRANSAS / Wartsila training simulators. The student will use this equipment to learn and satisfy the required training for radar equipped vessels. This course will satisfy the RADAR Observer requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(k); Sections A-II/1, A-II/2; and Tables A-II/1, A-II/2 of the STCW Code, As Amended 2010.
- Meteorology (Operational Level) (5 days): This course provides training to the mariner which is necessary to meet STCW, or U.S. Coast Guard requirements for Operational Level Meteorology principles. Learning objectives include practical training in Meteorology and forecasting weather.
- Radar Recertification Course (1 day): This course provides the training to the mariner necessary for them to meet STCW, or U.S. Coast Guard or IMO requirements for RADAR Observer Recertification.
STCW Courses
- Basic Training (5 days): Seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board ship in the business of that ship as part of the ship's complement with designated safety and pollution-prevention duties in the operation of the ship shall, before being assigned to any shipboard duties.
- STCW Familiarization Training: Before being assigned to shipboard duties, all persons employed or engaged on a seagoing ship other than passengers, shall receive approved familiarization training in Personal Survival Techniques or receive sufficient information and instruction.
