Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, five minutes from Port Everglades, the International Airport, Maritime Professional Training (MPT) is the most complete full service private maritime school in the country and has been training mariners since 1983. Fort Lauderdale based campuses host over 45,000 square feet of classrooms, deck and engineering training labs, the Ship’s Store, and student service facilities.

In addition to the MPT Main Campus, the training programs also take place at the MPT SMART Simulation Center, Marine Tech Shipboard Firefighting Site, the Sea Survival Training Facility, and the MPT Fleet of Training vessels.

MPT offers all levels of certification, license and document study programs, many of these offer in-school testing and are USCG Approved and recognized by many foreign administrations. The training programs are designed to meet and exceed IMO standards and are STCW Compliant.

Training Programs



STCW Training Packages

  • STCW Basic Safety Training: The one week Basic Safety program includes four seperate modules, completed over the course of 5 full days. These modules (classes) include Basic Fire Fighting, PSSR, Personal Survival Techniques, and First Aid/ CPR.
  • STCW BST plus Security Awareness: 1 week of training - 5 certificates.

USCG Approved Training Packages

  • USCG Captain's License Program: Captain's License USCG - Master or Mate 100 ton, FCC Marine Radio Operator Course and Exam MROP, Assistance Towing, Auxiliary Sail Endorsement USCG, and First Aid /CPR - Saturday Class. Please note that this is a program package for a domestic (National) license only.
  • USCG Master with STCW 100Ton or 200Ton: This program is designed to meet the STCW and National requirements for Masters less than 500T (STCW II/3) - near coastal management. BST, Captain's License USCG - Master or Mate 100 ton, FCC Marine Radio Operator Course and Exam MROP, Medical First Aid Care Provider, Advanced Fire Fighting STCW, Proficiency In Survival Craft and Rescue Boats/ Lifeboatman (PSCRB), Master or Mate 200 ton Upgrade, Assistance Towing, and Auxiliary Sail Endorsement USC.
  • USCG Mate (OICNW) Program: Mate 500-1600grt, 3rd Mate Unlimited / STCW II/1 OICNW <500GT. MPT offers all of the courses that are required by USCG NVIC 12-14(CH2) to upgrade from an Able Seaman to a Third Mate Unlimited or a Mate 500/1600/OSV/Mate (Pilot) Towing license.
  • USCG Mate (OICNW) Mini Program: Required courses and basic Exam prep only. 11 weeks of training and assessments - 15 certificates - Does not cover all assessments.
  • Able Seaman / Able Seafarer Deck / RFPNW Program: 3 weeks of training - 8 certificates Please note that Able Seaman is a National Certification.
  • USCG Master Oceans Upgrade 500-1600-3000: Approx. 15 weeks of training without optional course work. Please note that optional courses such as Advanced Navigation, Marine Propulsion plants, and Advanced Cargo may be required in order to fulfill your assessment needs.
  • Master of Towing - Mate Pilot - Apprentice Mate: Radar Observer Unlimited, Captain's License USCG - Master or Mate 100 ton, Apprentice Mate Steersman / Master of Towing Crossover Upgrade APX, and Master or Mate 200 ton Upgrade.
  • STCW BST plus QMED: 5 week program. Includes all testing - STCW required Basic training and USCG Qualified member of the engine department course.
  • USCG Chief Mate/ Master Program: ECDIS, Advanced Stability, Advanced Cargo Operations, Advanced Ship Handling (Shiphandling), Advanced Meteorology, Marine Propulsion Plants, Advanced Navigation (formerly VPEN), Human Element Leadership & Management (HELM), Chief Mate / Master License Advancement Preparation, SAR M (Search & Rescue Management Level), and Management of Medical Care.
  • Master with STCW Less than 500GT OCEANS: This program is designed to meet the STCW and National requirements for Masters less than 500T (STCW II/3) - OCEANS. Human Element Leadership & Management (HELM), SAR M (Search & Rescue Management Level), and Management of Medical Care.
  • Mate (OICNW) with STCW Less than 500GT - OCEANS: his program is designed to meet the STCW and National requirements for Mate(OICNW) less than 500T (STCW II/3) - OCEANS. Bridge Resource Management, Medical First Aid Care Provider, Proficiency In Survival Craft and Rescue Boats/ Lifeboatman (PSCRB), Watchkeeping - OICNW, and Visual Signaling Course Software and Exam.

MCA Approved Training Packages

  • MCA AEC 1 and 2, STCW BST, Maritime Security Awareness: 3 weeks of training - 6 certificates. Approved Engine Course 1 and 2 plus STCW Basic Training and Maritime Security Awareness.
  • MCA Approved Engine Course (AEC) 1 and 2: 2 weeks, 2 Certificates.
  • STCW BST Plus MCA/RYA Yachtmaster 200 Ton: Over 3 weeks of training -BST, RYA Short Range Certificate (SRC) Radio Course, and RYA Yachtmaster Offshore / Yachtmaster Coastal / Master of Yachts 200.
  • MCA Small Vessel 2nd Engineer Program: 3 weeks of training and written exams - MCA Marine Diesel Engineering Small Vessel, MCA Operational Procedures, Basic Hotel Service And Ship Construction, Small Vessel, and MCA Auxiliary Equipment - Part 1 - Small Vessel.
  • MCA Y2/Y1 Yacht Engineer Program: 5 weeks of training and written exams 5 certificates - MCA Y2/Y1 General Engineering Science II, MCA Y2/Y1 Applied Marine Engineering, MCA Y2/Y1 Advanced Hotel Services, MCA Y2/Y1 General Engineering Science I, and Human Element Leadership & Management (HELM).
  • MCA OOW 3000 Ton Program: 8 weeks of training including written exams - Proficiency In Survival Craft and Rescue Boats/ Lifeboatman (PSCRB), ECDIS, MCA GSK -General Ship's Knowledge, MCA OOW Navigation and Radar, GMDSS GOC - MCA AMERC, and Human Element Leadership and Management (HELM) Operational Level - MCA.
  • MCA Master 500-3000 Ton: Upgrade from OOW to Master - 6 weeks of training including written exams. MCA Business and Law, MCA Seamanship and Meteorology, MCA Navigation Radarand Arpa, MCA Stability, and MCA Celestial Navigation Refresher Course & Exam.
