Established in 2005, Quality Maritime Training (QMT) offers comprehensive variety of U.S. Coast Guard approved and STCW training courses and programs. QMT caters to the needs of professional mariners in and around central and north Florida. QMT is approved for veterans training through the GI Bill®. The training locations are in Jacksonville and Tampa, Florida.
From STCW Basic Safety Training to Bridge Resource Management, or Master/Mate 500/1600 Tons to Third Mate Any Gross Tons, certifications for STCW OICNW modules or Captain’s License, the courses are specifically designed to equip every student with an intimate knowledge of materials.
Quality Maritime Training has secured an exclusive contract with ABYC to instruct their 3 day classes combined with QMT's 2 day instruction on the regulatory impact of ABYC and Subchapter “M” of the Code of Federal Regulations.
This integrated 5 day class will provide the Recognized ABYC Certificate in the particular subject chosen and a certificate from Quality Maritime Training recognizing your training to the Sub-M applications.
Training Programs
Captain's & Master Upto 100 Ton Licenses
- Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV or 6-pack) (8 days): This course provides training to mariners seeking their US Coast Guard Operators License as Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) or also called the 6 Pack license upon Great Lakes, Inland and/or Near Coastal waters as specified in 46 CFR Part 11. It satisfies the classroom instruction and examination requirements listed in 46 CFR 11.910, Table 11.910-2 in lieu of taking the examinations at a US Coast Guard Regional Examination Center (REC).
- Upgrade, OUPV to Master 100 Gross Registered Tons: An existing holder of an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels, either Great Lakes/ Inland, Inland or Near Coastal, license may upgrade to a Master, 25, 50 or 100 GRT License by completing this training.
- Commercial Assistance Towing Endorsement (4 hours): This course provides classroom training in basic Assistance Towing techniques, terminology and safety to meet the training requirements for issuance of an Commercial Assistance Towing endorsement to a U.S. Coast Guard License.
USCG / STCW Courses (Deck)
- Able Seaman (Any Ratings) (5 Days): This course provides classroom and practical training to mariners who wish to obtain an endorsement to their U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s Document as Able Seaman with Lifeboatman Limited/PSC.
- Apprentice Mate (Steersman) of Towing Vessels on Western Rivers (1 Day): The Apprentice Mate (Steersman) on Western Rivers course covers the knowledge of - navigation, charts & maps; river hydrology; bridges & locks; aids to navigation; vessel traffic service systems; USACE electronic charting.
- Apprentice Mate (Steersman) or Master/Mate of Towing Vessels Upgrade Inland/Near Coastal (2 Days): This course provides training to mariners seeking a license as Apprentice Mate (Steersman) of Towing Vessels.
- Master/Mate (OICNW) 500/1600GRT & 3RD Mate AGT, Near Coastal (1 week): This is a license examination preparation program, which also includes the Navigation Problems Near Coastal (Terrestrial Navigation) training. The program is designed to prepare mariners to pass all U.S. Coast Guard examinations for Master/Mate or Officer In Charge of the Navigation Watch (OICNW) of vessel greater than 500 Gross Tons on Near Coastal waters.
- Rating Forming Part of a Navigational Watch (RFPNW) STCW Assessment (1 day): Not a Training Course - Assessment Program Only. This RFPNW program is conducted using our SSH-2009 Ship Steering Simulator. This program is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard.
- Upgrade Master 100 GRT to Master 200 GRT/500GT: This course provides training to mariners seeking to upgrade their existing Master or Mate 100 Gross Registered Tons (GRT) license upon Great Lakes, Inland and/or Near Coastal waters to Master or Mate of 200 GRT as specified in 46 CFR Part 10. It satisfies the classroom instruction and examination requirements listed in 46 CFR 10.910, Table 10.910-2 in lieu of taking the examinations at a US Coast Guard Regional Examination Center (REC).
USCG / STCW Courses (Engineering)
- Designated Duty Engineer 1000/4000 HP (Certificate / No Test at USCG) (160 Hrs.): Each student who successfully completes this course will have achieved the functional knowledge, understanding and skills in all required subject area.
- Qualified Member of The Engine Department-Oiler (QMED) (120 hours): Successful completion of QMED-Oiler (QUALMI-387) course and presenting the certificate of training within one year will satisfy the examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.501 (c)(5) for a national rating endorsement as QMED-Oiler.
