Founded in 1935, Del Mar College (DMC) in Corpus Christi, Texas, is public community college serving Corpus Christi and nearby areas. Training Programs
Maritime Safety Training Courses
- Basic Safety Training (40 hours): This Coast Guard-approved entry level training course is for individuals wanting to get into the maritime field. This course has four modules: Basic Firefighting, Personal Survival Techniques (swimming pool), Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities, Basic First Aid and CPR.
- Basic Safety Revalidation (8 hours): This Coast Guard-approved course satisfies the requirements of 46 CFR 11.302(d) and 12.602(d) for mariners who have previously held a Basic Safety Training endorsement under STCW and have at least 1 year of sea service within the last 5 years.
- Vessel/Company Security Officer (17 hours): This Coast Guard-approved course satisfies the requirements of 46 CFR 11.337(a) for an STCW endorsement as Vessel Security Officer. This two-day course covers everything from Maritime Security policy to completing a ship security assessment to implementing the ship's security plan.
- Advanced Firefighting (32 hours): This Coast Guard-approved course satisfies the requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(h)(2) and STCW for advanced firefighting. This course is four days long and covers more in-depth firefighting concepts and procedures than the basic firefighting class, focusing on command-and-control elements.
- Tankerman (40 hours): This five-day course will prepare mariners to act in the capacity of a Tank Barge Dangerous Liquids Person-In-Charge, or more commonly referred to as a tankerman. Students will learn the basic properties of petroleum and its hazards, tank barge design and layout, and tank barge operations.
