USCG Approved Vessel Security Officer and Subchapter M Training Online for Seafarers
Established in 2015 and located in League City, TX, Mariner Safety Services is a maritime training and consulting company and offers training for all mariners for the enhancement of safety of life at sea.
MSS was one of the first company with course approval for Vessel Security Officer online by the USCG. They offer simpler and cost-effective training seafarers without losing the invaluable in-person experience.
Mariner Safety Services, in collaboration with industry leading Moxie Media, also provides hundreds of training courses. Training programs developed by Moxie in collaboration with ABS to satisfy USCG requirements and prepare vessel crews and company management.

Training Programs
USCG Approved Online Training
- Vessel Security Officer (VSO) Online: This course is modeled after IMO Course Framework 3.19 - Ship Security Officer and intended to train - Vessel or Ship Security Officer; Company Security Officer; Port Facility Security Officer and Other Security Related Personnel (who wish to gain a better understanding of the vessel security officer's roles and responsibilities). Students who successfully complete this course and the pass the final assessment will be issued a certificate to submit to USCG for issue of the VSO endorsement on their Merchant Mariner Credential.
ABS Subchapter M Training
- Preparing for a Subchapter M Survey - Online: Due to USCG Subchapter M regulations, an annual vessel survey must be completed within three months before or after the vessel Certificate of Inspection (COI) or the COI anniversary date. This program, developed in collaboration with ABS, prepares vessel crews, company management, and internal and external surveyors of what to expect when a survey is conducted.
- Subchapter M - Training Series - Online: This eight-course curriculum will fulfill the training requirements found in 46 CFR 142.245 - Requirements for training crews to respond to fires, 46 CFR 140.410 - Safety orientation, 46 CFR 140.515 - Training requirements, and 46 CFR 140.645 - Navigation safety training.
