Established in 1962, PSA Institute is a training organization offering Port and Terminal programs for skilled professionals focusing on Singapore which is the largest transhipment hub port in the world.
PSA Institute develops its own training materials, videos and training aids ensuring that they are relevant in the local context and tightly integrated to the overall syllabus.
PSA Institute features a series of logistics and warehousing courses under the WSQ Generic Manufacturing - Logistics framework; range of port management courses, from operations to maintenance of port equipment to human resource and training; a range of courses on conventional port operations and vessel berthing/unberthing operations; approved Rigger/Signalman as well as the Lifting Supervisor Safety courses; and a wide range of safety-related courses.
Training Programs
Lifting & Operations Courses
- Perform Rigger And Signalman Tasks (2.5 days): This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to prepare and to tie the load for safe lifting by any form of lifting equipment using correct and clear signals to guide the crane operator in the maneuvering of a load safely to its destination.
- Vessel Berthing/Unberthing Course (1 day): The course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to supervise vessel berthing/ unberthing operations.
- Cargo Handling Skills For Conventional Operations (3 days): This course aims to provide participants with the skill and knowledge to work as stevedores in PSA’s Terminals.
- Cargo Handling Supervision: This course aims to provide participants with the required knowledge and skills to supervise break-bulk Cargo Operations in the port.
- Supervise Safe Lifting Operations (4 days): This course is aimed at providing individuals with the knowledge and skills to supervise the crane operator in the maneuvering of a load safely to its destination.
- Essentials of Container Lashing Operations (3 days): The course aims to equip participants with the required knowledge and skills to lash/unlash containers.
Shipping Safety Courses
- Safety Course for Ship Supplier Personnel (0.5 day): The course aims to equip ship supplier personnel to work safely in PSA’s Terminals.
- Understanding and Complying With the IMDG Code (3 days): This course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and understanding of the basic requirements of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.
- Refresher Course on IMDG Code (2 days): At the end of the course, participants will refresh their knowledge and understanding of the basic requirements of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.
- Safety Supervisors (3 days): The course aims to equip participants with a good grounding of ship and wharf safety knowledge and skills to enable them to perform effectively as Safety Supervisors.
- Developmental Safety Training (1 day): The course aims to update participants on PSA Safety requirements and enforcement systems.
Logistics Courses
- Perform Stock Control and Housekeeping Operations (2 days): This course aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to perform stock control and housekeeping operations in the manufacturing / logistics industry.
- Perform Warehouse Operations (2 days): This course enables an individual to acquire the skills and knowledge to perform warehouse operations in the manufacturing / logistics industry.
- Perform Delivery Operations (2 days): The course aims to provide participants with knowledge of the operations of a delivery assistant which include preparing for delivery operations, loading and unloading products as well as interpreting and executing the delivery schedule.
- Develop Risk Management Implementation Plan (2 days): This course provide participants with the knowledge and skills to be a Risk Management Champion for the organization in reducing risks at source by managing the risk management process at workplace.
- Apply Quality System (2 days): This course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and application skills to plan and carry out daily work to meet quality system requirements as well as maintaining and improving work quality and standards.
- Apply Workplace Safety & Health Policy (2 days): The course aims to provide participants with the knowledge on workplace safety and health (WSH) regulations to plan daily work to meet WSH requirements.
