Training Programs

Specialized Marine Training Courses

  • Fire/Marine Industrial Customized Training: Through classroom-based instruction and practical training in a simulated industrial environment, learners will gain valuable Firefighting knowledge and skills specific to a facility or marine industrial setting. There will be a variety of topics such as PPE, SCBA, Fire Behavior, Fire Hose, Fire Streams, Firefighting Equipment, Extinguishers, Foam, and Fire Control (Exterior and Interior) for customizing the training.
  • Introduction to Liquefied Natural Gas- Marine: This course is intended to provide practical training to mariners, who will be working on vessels fueled and operated on dual fuels (LNG & diesel). The training received during this one-day course, will give participants a basic understanding of the properties of LNG, both as a flammable liquid and as a gas, as well as the cryogenic issues it presents.
  • Marine Industry - Gas Fueled Vessel - Basic Training: This training is based on the requirements of Transport Canada and is in direct compliance with STCW95 Convention, Chapter V, Regulation A-V/3 & Table A-V/3-1. This training is important for mariners to obtain endorsement for their licensing, allowing them to work aboard vessels operating on "Low Flashpoint Fuels" (as per IMO- IGF Code).
  • Roll On - Roll Off Vessel - Fire Emergencies: This course is intended to assist marine personnel who serve aboard Roll on- Roll Off (Ro-Ro) vessels (ferries) who have firefighting related duties. This course is a blend of classroom theory and practical live-fire training, with a focus on ship board environment. The emphasis will be on the types of fires, and associated hazards such as what would be found with a fire on the vehicle deck.

STCW Courses

  • STCW-MED-Advanced Fire Fighting: This Marine Emergency Duties, Advanced Fire Fighting course is based on the requirements of Transport Canada TP 4957, Chapter 16, and is in direct compliance with STCW95 Convention, Regulation A-Vl/3. Through classroom-based presentation and practical skills training, participants will gain valuable knowledge and skills in regards to fire safety, as well as how to manage and control fire situations aboard ships.
  • STCW-MED-Basic Safety Training: This MED- Basic Safety Training course is based on the requirements of Transport Canada TP 4957, Chapter 10, and is in direct compliance with STCW95 Convention, Regulation Vl/l. This course is delivered at the JIBC Maple Ridge Campus. The training is offered in collaboration with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), who offers the companion 4-day course at the BCIT Marine campus.
  • STCW-MED-Domestic Vessel Safety: MED-DVS is a skills-based course delivered at the JIBC Maple Ridge campus. The training is offered in collaboration with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), who delivers at its Marine campus the requirements of Transport Canada TP4957, Chapter 5 that are not covered in this course.
