north island college nic

North Island College (NIC) is a community college located in Vancouver Island, BC, Canada committed to high quality and excellence in the programs and services. With over 900 courses and 70 credit programs in health care, trades, business, fine arts, tourism, and university studies, NIC offers the education and skills training needed to reach your goal, with the flexibility and support to make it achievable.

Learn to navigate the season NIC's new marine simulators, the only high-tech equipment of their kind north of Victoria using programs unique to the BC Coast. In NIC's Marine Training program students can drop anchor on a 40,000-ton transport ship, hook a tugboat to a barge, or sail a high speed yacht in BC’s best, and worst, sea conditions.

NIC’s Marine Training courses are specifically designed for current mariners to upgrade their certificates and for those new to the marine industry looking for the opportunity to start their career. Small classes, great instructors. The excellent student-to-faculty ratio at NIC gives you more direct contact with your instructors than at other institutions. NIC’s program is designed to aid mariners throughout the province by making training in nautical subjects convenient and accessible.

NIC provides industry-approved training for both experienced and emerging mariners. Learn boat safety, hazards, emergency response, survival and rescue and more. Prepare to write the certification exams from Transport Canada, Industry Canada and Canadian Power Squadron.
