Established in 1964, British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Canada is British Columbia’s largest post-secondary institutions with more than 48,000 students enrolled annually (16,600 full-time, 31,600 part-time). BCIT offers practical career credentials designed for the workplace, including degrees, diplomas and certificates spanning Applied and Natural Sciences, Business and Media, Computing and Information Technology, Engineering, Health Sciences, Transportation, and Trades.

Established in 1964, BCIT has five campuses at Burnaby (main campus), Downtown Campus, Marine Campus, Aerospace Technology Campuses and Great Northern Way Campus, as well as satellite locations province-wide. BCIT’s international partnerships span training, education and research initiatives in South America, Central America, East Asia and Eastern Europe.

BCIT School of Business is one of Canada’s largest business schools and offers 40 career-oriented credentials ranging from Associate Certificates to Bachelor’s Degrees at three different campuses.

BCIT Marine Campus (BMC) is located in North Vancouver on the water front near the Lonsdale Quay. Here students can learn a wide variety of courses and programs in navigation, marine engineering, seamanship, maritime and Maritime Security.

Academic & Training Programs

Business Diploma Programs

  • Global Trade and Transportation Management Diploma (2 years): The BCIT Global Trade and Transportation Management diploma program provides the skills necessary to market products globally, Import, Export, transport goods, and manage an international team. Portions of the program curriculum have been aligned and accredited with CITT, CILTNA, FITT, and SCMA. Graduates of GTTM can earn additional professional designations from the aforementioned industry accreditation institutes.
  • Business Operations Management Diploma (2 years): The base of the operations function is supply chain management, specifically purchasing, process management, and quality management to maximize productivity. In the BCIT Business Operations Management diploma program, you’ll learn how to manage, evaluate, and improve these critical functions.

Business Certificate Programs

  • International Trade and Transportation Logistics Certificate (Part-time): You’ll learn the techniques today’s successful managers and logistics coordinators use for market analysis, effective entry strategies, transportation, and planning for international trade and transportation.
  • International Trade and Transportation Logistics Certificate (Part-time, Online): Since each course in the program is developed by working professionals in operations and international trade, you’ll get the most current, up-to-date information and the practical skills you can use in your everyday duties in supply chain management and logistics.

APICS Certification Programs

Marine Cadet Diploma Programs

  • Nautical Sciences Diploma (4 years, Co-op): The Nautical Sciences program is a four-year full-time Co-operative program accredited by Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security (TCMSS). You will gain a thorough background in the principles and operation of modern vessels like supertankers, bulk carriers, cruise ships, tugboats, and offshore supply vessels. Upon successful completion of the third year of the program and obtaining at least 12 months of Transport Canada approved sea time, you will be eligible to challenge the Transport Canada Watchkeeping Mate Certificate of Competency.
  • Marine Engineering Diploma (3 years, Co-op): The Marine Engineering diploma program is a three-year cadet co-operative program. BCIT Marine Engineering students (Cadets) are trained in all mechanical, Electrical, and structural aspects of ships; from main engines to auxiliary systems found in all ocean-going vessels ranging from supertankers to cruise ships, Cargo ships, and more. This certification will allow you to work as a qualified Marine Engineering Officer on any commercial vessel of any size worldwide.

Marine Associate Certificate Programs

  • Bridge Watch Rating (12 weeks): The Bridge Watch Rating Associate Certificate is the foundation to beginning your career at sea. This program is designed to provide entry-level personnel with base-level knowledge of seamanship to prepare you for a career at sea with BC Ferries, the Canadian Coast Guard, local companies and other Canadian companies operating ships and vessels.
  • Master 150GT Domestic (Part-time): Consists of modular based courses, offered throughout the year, to prepare students towards the Master 150GT Domestic Certificate of Competency.
  • Master 500GT Domestic (Part-time): Consists of modular based courses, that are offered throughout the year, to prepare students towards the Master 500GT Domestic Certificate of Competency.

  • Watchkeeping Mate Near Coastal (WKMNC) (Part-time): The Watchkeeping Mate Near Coastal program consists of modular based courses, offered throughout the year, to prepare students towards the Watchkeeping Mate Near Coastal Certificate of Competency.
  • Master 3000GT Domestic (Part-time): Consists of modular based courses, offered throughout the year, to prepare students towards the Master 3000GT Domestic Certificate of Competency.
  • Chief Mate (Part-time): The Chief Mate program consists of modular based courses, that are offered throughout the year, to prepare students towards the Chief Mate Certificate of Competency.
