Vocational Training Programs

Maritime Apprenticeship Programs

  • Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction (4 years, Part Time): Learn the skills you need to build and design marine craft using both traditional methods of manufacture as well as new and emerging technologies.
  • Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Technology (3 years, Part Time): Make the water your office when you equip yourself with the expertise needed to work as a highly regarded marine mechanic. Gain the skills to work on engines and propulsion systems used across the boating industry.
  • Certificate III in Manufactured Textile Products (Sailmaking) (3 years, Part Time): Learn on the job as you enter the dynamic manufactured textiles industry. Craft and maintain yacht sails, sunshades, PVC and other textile products, and ensure that you graduate industry-ready.

Maritime Operations Programs

  • Certificate I in Maritime Operations (General Purpose Hand Near Coastal) (2 weeks, Full Time): Qualify to work as a general purpose hand in coastal waters on a vessel up to 80 metres, as you learn to work as part of a crew on deck or in the engine room.
  • Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal) (6 weeks, Full Time): This comprehensive course will equip you with the skills and experience to confidently perform as a ship’s master, operating vessels up to 12 metres.
  • Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 Near Coastal) (4 weeks, Full Time): This hands-on course will provide you with the foundational skills and knowledge needed to work in the Australian maritime industry as an engineer or engine room worker.
  • Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Master up to 24 metres Near Coastal) (7 weeks, Full Time): Learn to navigate the seas and sail to a career as a master, chief mate or deck watchkeeper. Rise to challenges as you lead a crew on fishing charters, commercial vessels and tourist trips on vessels within Australian coastal waters.
  • Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal) (5 weeks, Full Time): Gain the skills to become a chief engineer on certain vessels, a chief engineer’s assistant or an engine room worker with this practical and exciting course. Train on real boats and ships, in Firefighting facilities and swimming pools for real life experience as you build a career on the high seas.
  • Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45 metres Near Coastal) (7 weeks FT or 3 months PT): Gain the specialist skills and training needed to apply for an AMSA certificate of competency and work as a master on domestic vessels up to 45 metres.
