Wavelink Maritime Institute (WMI) premier and professional organization dedicated to provide quality maritime education, training and consultancy services for the local and international maritime and shipping industry. WMI provides training services to better enhance and further strengthen the competencies and to meet the demands and challenges of the International maritime environment.

WMI commitment to training is based on its capability and resources to provide quality education and training for both mandatory and non-mandatory Merchant Marine courses for the local and regional maritime shipping companies, in particular, the Collective Bargaining Agreement companies. WMI has developed various categories of training programs to meet the varied and wide spectrum of seafarers training and education.

Wavelink Maritime Institute (WMI) is a Registered Private Education Institution (PEI) with the Council for Private Education (CPE) in Singapore. WMI appointed is a Recognized Security Organization (RSO) by Maritime and Port Authority (MPA), Singapore for implementation of International Code for the security of Ships and Port Facilities (ISPS Code). Many of its maritime programs are also approved by Skills Program for Upgrading and Resilience (SPUR).

Training Programs

Cadet Programs

  • Certificate in Marine Engineering (Pre-Sea Marine Engineering Program) (8 months): The cadets will be attending full-time classroom-based training and practical lessons for 8 months as part of the pre-sea training. The cadets will be issued a Certificate of Marine Engineering (approved by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, MPA) by WMI.
  • Certificate in Nautical Studies (Pre Sea Deck Cadet Training Program) (6 months): A career development program that prepares Singaporeans to join the maritime industry and pursue their aspirations as Nautical Officers onboard ocean-going ships. The cadets will be attending full-time classroom-based training and practical lessons for 6 months as part of the pre-sea training. The cadets will be issued a Certificate of Nautical Studies (approved by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, MPA) by WMI.
  • The programs are jointly sponsored by the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i), under the Workforce Singapore (WSG), the Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU), and the Shipping Community, with the candidates covering 10% of the course fees.
  •  Under these courses, the candidates have to undergo an approximate 3-year program to attain a professional qualification as a Class 3 Deck Officer or Class 5 Marine Engineer to work onboard foreign going vessels.

  • Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (1 day)
  • Proficiency in Security Awareness Training (0.5 day)
  • High Voltage Training (Operational Level) (3 days)
